What to Include on your CV so it stands out above the Rest

Posted by admin on February 27, 2017

How many times have you applied for a job and had no feedback? Have you ever thought it could be your CV that is letting you down? Here at Honor Search, we’re fully aware of how important CV’s are to potential employers, and what it is they want to see. Take a look at the following tips to help you boost your CV and become irresistibly to those companies!

Readability

The first thing you need your CV to be is readable. Those who are reading through your CV need to be able to do so quickly and effectively. We’d advise splitting your CV into multiple sections with clear and concise headings with bullet point information. This means your CV will look eye-catching and appear uncluttered- perfect for the reader who will be after specific information!

Check, Check, Check!

Whilst recruiters won’t spend a long time looking at individual CV’s, it’s important to remember that any mistakes that are noticed could mean an instant rejection. Check your CV vigilantly for spelling and grammatical mistakes. If you’re unsure, use the spell checker on your PC or ask someone to double-check it for you. Your CV could make you come across as the perfect candidate, until they find the errors!

Achievements

Where possible, include an achievements section on your CV. This can make an instant difference to how well your CV comes across to recruiters, allowing them to distinguish you from other candidates. Only write down things you have genuinely accomplished, using the space to highlight career moves you have excelled in. Why not add how you plan to continue great results in your future job roles?

Truths

Many people seem to believe that everyone lies on their CV. This is a common myth and it’s extremely vital this is something you do not do. You wouldn’t want to get to the interview process and be caught out, which is bound to create an awkward atmosphere and ruin your chances! By only putting what is true onto your CV, recruiters will be hiring you for all the right reasons.

Cover Letter

When creating the perfect CV, it’s important to not assume the recruiter will see how your experience related to the job role you are applying for. We’d advise going one step further and taking the time to write a short cover letter to explain word for word why you’re the best candidate for the job. This will show the recruiter how much effort you’re putting in, and furthermore will prove exactly how much you want it.
