Operations Manager (Team Lead) - Leading EdTech Saas - Oval, SW London (up to 40k)

UK schools spend well over £2bn per year on covering short term absences with supply teachers. The current model is exclusively reliant on agencies that charge a massive commission and are terribly inefficient (everything is paper and phone-call based). My client are consolidating this analogue, fragmented, and inefficient marketplace onto a digital platform. Think Uber for supply teachers. In the process they pull hundreds of millions of waste out of the education system and have a huge positive impact on teachers and schools.


They are well-funded by high-profile investors, have had significant early traction, and are led by start-up veterans behind two of London's most prominent tech companies. You will be responsible for key parts of the supply side of the marketplace and short term liquidity for daily bookings. Within both, you’ll identify and implement scalable processes, and consistently work on projects to attract new teachers and teaching assistants to the platform and ensure they receive a positive user experience.

What you would be doing?


  • Own the execution and drive performance improvement of the logistics and operations of dispatching Teachers to work in schools 
  • Own KPIs related to number of workers available, number of new workers added, fill rate, liquidity, and operational excellence and develop new experiments and processes to improve those KPIs 
  • Performing data analysis on other key metrics to communicate how the operations team operate 
  • Own the line management, development and professional growth of an operations team 
  • Work closely with the teacher success, school sales and the technology team to suggest and lead enhancements in recruiting teachers and schools.


Our ideal candidate


  • 3+ years’ experience in operations roles, ideally in early-stage marketplace start-ups or a similar environment 
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge of the education sector 
  • Knowledge of key operational improvement frameworks such as Kanban, Agile, Six Sigma or similar is a strong plus 
  • Ability to develop a continuous operational improvement strategy, analyse data to manage progress, and communicate results to all stakeholders in the business 
  • Experience with web tools such as Typeform, Zoho, Zapier, Zendesk and similar 
  • Experience managing teams 
  • Experience with coordinating ‘on-demand’ logistics 
  • University degree required; master’s degree preferred
